R107 Budget Seat Cover Recommendations

Hi Guys,

A 85 380SL is my daily driver. I love the car, but due to its condition (some rust from the northeast and some paint damage) I am not inclined to spend much on aesthetics. I keep the motor healthy and safety equipment running well, those are my priorities.

The seats are in pretty bad shape--something that never really bothered me, but now that the padding is finding its way out, I should probably address it.

I do NOT want to get the seats reupholstered. I understand that that will put me out around $2000 between materials and labor.

I was hoping that someone may have a good seat-cover recommendation that suits our cars relatively well.

Thoughts?

Maybe pick up some decent covers and do the install/stuffing yourself? Not exactly "cheap" but much less than $2K:

Look for some good used seats. I have used car-parts dot com to find seats from a wrecked low miles car.

Replacing the seats in an SL is about the easiest thing there is. All you do is unbolt them and lift them out.

And it will be a lot cheaper than putting on new skins.

If you can wait a few months a lot of flood cars will be hitting the yards. The leather can be cleaned and the seats can be unbolted from the rails and bolted to your existing rails.

I have new seat skins in black for a 107. I don't know which years they fit. I don't have headrests or armrests. I got them at a closing of an upholstery company in Hollywood, along with a lot of other mis-matched things. The only thing I have a set of is the black 107 seat covers. You want them? I'll sell cheap.
