Nardi adapter on 1977 450 SLC
I had to go to a shop to get the 22 mm nut off my 1977 450 SLC, so I can put a Nardi steering wheel on it.
One hour after taking off the old wheel the adapter arrived, the "new" universal adapter doesn't come with instructions, unlike the old 3320 adapter this one has an additional plate with two contact brass circular strips. From the bottom of this extra plate are two contact wires. It looks like I need to pull out the two MB contacts. Has anyone done this using the new 2802 adapter and any tips? Can't answer your question but an outfit called Crowder's Customizing on ebay sells Nardi wheels and hub adapters. I have purchased a few over the years. They may be able to help.

I bought the adapter from Crowders since I got the best price from them, although they were cruel. I got the adapter today, thought I was getting the steering wheel also as they sent a tracking number.
Turns out they sent a letter saying the wheel will be coming soon and they will get another tracking number then. I called Crowders, they really don't know anything about a 40 year old Mercedes.. |

It took two full months for me to get a Nardi wheel from Crowder's. They did let me know that it wasn't in stock at the time I accepted their counter offer on eBay, but I would have gone with the next least expensive option from an auth'd seller for not much more had I known it was going to take that long (their estimate was 3 weeks). They did the same thing with the tracking number for a letter telling me what they already had via email.
I had to inquire for updates multiple times and it coincidentally was on the shipment they received that day the last time I sent them a message. All the while the item showed in stock online. I also seem to remember that the shipping wasn't upgraded to expedited as promised when they finally did post it. I'm currently shopping for a MoMo wheel for another car, and I would rather buy from elsewhere. |

The adapter also locks up when the nut is tightened up. The lower outer rim of the adapter hits the sheering housing. I am going to try some 5/8" washers as spacers, although I might end up cutting the adapter rim back instead.

My advice would be to return it before any further modifications. I've seen a few old style adapters for R/C107 on eBay. If none are currently available one will pop up. I went with an off-brand adapter because I don't think the accordion gaiter boot look works well in the Mercedes interior. I understand it's because they're collapsible as a safety feature, but I just couldn't do it.

What off brand did you use and does it work with a Nardi wheel?

It has dual bolt circles for Nardi or Momo. I don't think it's compatible with your SLC but here's the link anyway. You might contact the seller and verify fitment or if they have one for your car. It needed a coat of paint. The crinkle coat on there was spotty in places. But it was cheap, works, and even came with an rinky dink MB horn button. Also got delivered in a few days from SE Asia. Looks better than the current Nardi offerings too, IMO.

I will be getting my money back from Crowders, they say 3 more weeks before it gets to the USA.
So I ordered from a store in California, shipped today and supposedly will be delivered tomorrow. I talked with the lady there, she said they had 5 in stock, when I ordered it went down to 4 in stock. Certainly NOT like Crowders. My steering wheel has been off for almost a week, have the newer adapter installed. Got another Mercedes logo coming for putting on the top of the Nardi horn button. I affixed one of those over a spare horn button I had. I went back to the Nardi button. The MB horn button I really want is more than I paid for the steering wheel.
Your story with Crowder's sounds suspiciously identical to mine. They probably dropped the ball and just placed the order for the wheel from Nardi given that the initial estimate is 3 weeks. I'm fairly positive that's what happened in my situation. And then forgot to ship it to me until I contacted them again. |

Yeh I would like one of those larger 1950s / 1960's buttons, with an ivory wheel on a Nardi.
I think the laurel wreath MB looks great, might look slightly better on a polished spoke Nardi. I will posy more on my Nardi store find, It supposedly will arrive on Saturday, ordered Thursday afternoon. Even if it gets here next Monday it will still get me driving 3 weeks earlier. I am up to 34,300 miles on my 77 450 SLC. I am keeping all the original parts I am taking off, so it could be returned back to stock. But I like my MBs to look and run a certain way. FAST and LOUD |

Got my Nardi 390mm polished spoke today. Very impressed with TuneShop @ eBay. Have to give the highest ratings possible, Great communications, ultra fast shipping, good price ($348) with free shipping.
From out side the car it looks PERFECT, From the drivers seat I wish it was larger, the speedo is covered from 70 to 90 MPH and the gas gage is totally covered. Still I will normally drive this car closer to 65 as the car revs are a thousand higher than any new car. |
