Best way to clean engine on a w108?

My '72 4.5 had a fuel injector leak that I had fixed.

However, there is this lingering burnt fuel smell whenever the engine heats up. I know the convential wisdom is that this will eventually just burn away and dissipate but it seem to persist.

I was wondering if there is a recommended engine cleaner product or spray that is safe to use on these engines with all exposed rubber hoses, etc?

Thanks in advance for any insights.

I'll say LA's Totally Awesome. Not to be contrarian - SG does work well - but Totally Awesome does live up to its name as well.

I have found the DG oven cleaner a little weak compared to name brand like Easy Off. Still has it's place for less demanding applications. Wear gloves-that slimy feeling is your skin melting

Simple green, yes, very good.

I have tried Oil Eater, uncut it eats paint, but does wonders on oil and grease.

But the best thing is a pressure washer. It's a tool I can't believe I have go so long without. The $130-$200 models work great.

I use Easy Off oven cleaner on metal parts of all types with no trouble. I use the BBQ Grill version as it cuts through almost everything. You do have to put it on and let it soak for about 30 minutes to get the best results.

But I don't know what it would do to rubber fuel hoses of the era. I need to cut a piece off of one of the parts cars and test it out.
