That's one of the best looking old Benzes I've seen. The wood on the dash is in beautiful shape! Not to mention the crack-free dash pad and steering wheel. Is the carpet original?

Beautiful car Rook. My first Benz was a 71 280S. I would personally try to find that original shifter. The car is so nice I'd like to keep it as factory as possible. At least make sure you have with the car so you can change it out down the road if you want to. I don't see any sign of rust in those pic's and a very clean engine bay. Seems like a good environment for a car. Where are you located?

- Peter.

Thanks! The condition of the car is all down to the care and regular maintenance my dad kept up. The carpeting, interior, and paint are all original. I'm not sure about the floor mats, I reckon those must have been replaced at some point but they seem to be an exact fit for the car.

The matching carpeting on the center console is a little bit of a mystery to me. I don't remember if it was always there or not, but the edges, which have no trimming, are a little raggedy. It is an exact fit though.

There is a little dirt and wear in certain places such as this part of the piping on the driver's seat but overall it really looks nice. I don't think any one ever even smoked in it. I know we never ate anything in it!

I haven't found any rust anywhere. The car has always been located in the Monterey Bay area of California which can be very terrible for rust if you park outside overnight near the beach. You look under the hood of cars down there and everything is corroded.

So any guess on the odometer reading? It hasn't ever sat around out of commission; it's always been a registered driver. I found my dad's log book and found out it has 272,337 miles. The really good news is that it has only 2,493 miles on a rebuilt head. I was super happy to see that!

I gotta ask. How are you uploading these pic's? I want to do that to some of mine as I can't use Photobucket any more.

Hi Peter. It took me quite a while to figure out how to do it, following a thread that showed up just in time for me.

I take photos with my phone and then I email them to myself. I open the email on my computer and download them. Then I shrink (resize) them a lot on the computer so that they are less than 732 kb and smaller than 1500 x 1500 in size.

Then, on this website, I click on the paperclip symbol at the top of the message box and then click on the (hold on while I try it... I am forgetting!) “choose file” and the “upload” buttons.

It should work if your photos are small enough. I kept getting the “upload failed” message and it turned most of the photos on my phone were huge datawise, like 3,000 or 4,000 kb!

My computer is an old laptop with Windows XP. The photo managing thing calls resizing “stretch/skew” and I typically resize to 50% or even 25% of the original.

I hope that helps!

Wow, I finally found the original ball gearshifter for my car in a box. I don’t know how involved changing it back will be, but it certainly is going to stay with the car, even if it’s in this box.
