1962 w111 questions
I own a w111 220s. Old owner chopped my harness.
is there a manual for the wiring? i need to redo the high beam floor switch, the radio (cant find the area for the power plug to plug in ao i assume that was cut out), and the wiper motor harness. Are seats changeable between models? i have a neck injury from my time in the service, and having no neck support is beginning to take the fun out of driving, sadly. Also, is there any way to swap in disc brakes on this chassis? car is not stock powered anymore and i would like to have a little more stopping ability. Justin |

That is a cool looking car! We had a ‘61 220 when I was a kid and I recall it came with one removable headrest that fit into holes on the upper seat back. I don’t recall if it went on the driver’s or front passenger seat. They are probably rare. Sorry to hear about the pain being so bad.

The front seats are interchangeable from any W108 model. While for the Disc Brakes you would need a dual circuit brake booster, a W108 rear axle and front spindles. I would recommend a rear axle from a 4.5L, with your RB25's power.

My 63 220S had front disks, rear drums and did not have dual circuit brakes.

change to disc is a major job, but on mine ( a 62) my assist booster works great ,feels just like power brakes. does your still have the original brakes Is the T50 booster in place . I have the head rest , or recliner pillow as they are called . True head rest started in 64 -65 I believe . Mine is made so you can lay the seats back and snooze ...

I saw your car at a shopping center in Carson City a few days ago-pretty cool ride.

The W113 have the same seats as our fintails, so it should be 1:1.

The older seats had headrests that were attached to the seat back frame with flanges built into the seat back frame. You would, actually the installer at the dealer, would locate the flanges find out if the mounting holes were already there (and if not would drill them out) and then bolt on some external chrome plated braces to which the 'pillow' would be attached. I don't think there was any way to raise or lower them. And the only ones I have ever seen from the factory were on the passenger side. You could always add them to the driver side; the factory just didn't offer them. I do think going with 108 seats would be best. I find them to be more comfortable than the original 111 seats, but thats just me. |

The 111 seats bottoms have flat springs and the 108 seats have coil springs like a living room chair used to. I had my seats rebuilt with 108 bottoms-much more supportive. But the vacuum actuated seat back release not fit in the 108 bottom so the seat back does not lock-I will have to engineer a solution.

Watch your rear brakes. I just sent mine to Illinois to be re-lined. Very difficult of find pads right now. I have a 62 220SEb, same color!

I just sent my 68 230 rear brake shoes to get relined also. I used a place in south new Jersey, 35 dollars a shoe.
One can purchase them from the classic center for 330$ a shoe lol.
