Opinions on ponton seating....

A friend of mine has two pontons which he is in the process of making into one. One has bucket seats, one has a bench seat.

The buckets feel nicer to me and to him but he is wondering if anyone has had any long term experience with the front bench seat, comfort wise.

This guy intends to not make this a show car but a fully restored and correct Mercedes he can drive everyday. Every nice day, that is. He is not even going to retrofit an a/c even though I have told him this is possible and was done by dealers at the time.

The car runs and drives right now. It just looks a bit rough. It has been garage kept since 1958. The other car has rusted floors and all the normal things that kill a ponton.

So... Bench or buckets? Any comments?

Is this a 180D or a 220S? Need to know. Size counts here. Also: a convertible, hardtop or sedan?

He said one of them was a 190. They are both four door sedans and neither of them have a sunroof.

He was looking for a sedan with a full sized sunroof, the fabric type that covers the entire roof, but he ran across a deal for the two of them. They were the project of someone who passed away and the family just wanted them gone.

So he figures to learn from these two and continue the search for a full sunroof car.

And thanks for the questions. When it comes to pontons I don't know what I don't know.

I do know a lot about them, but not near enough to want to take on such a project myself.

I would get the data card from the Classic Center and go with the original equipment.
