any ideas how defroster knob is removed on climate control panel ?

The shaft of the knob fits inside the housing of the shaft for the control. The knob shaft has a circular spring clip around it that holds it expanded to the housing (circular chrome part), similar to a ring on a piston pushing against the cylinder wall. I have always just given the knob a quick pull and it comes off. Installing it can be tricky because you need to insert it while shoving in spring clip while at the same time being careful not to bend it out of round, so be patient.
