I changed oil type to this....

...and I've noticed that there's less clatter upon, first thing in the morning, initial start-up.

If your car has hydraulic lifters or hydraulic lash adjusters, the Mobil 1 is well documented to quiet down the clatter since it has a pretty strong detergent package. Take it out and ride it hard to let the detergents do their thing! If you've only run conventional, expect a relatively nasty oil change next time.

Except for Volvo(5W30) and Citroen (20W30-50) gas cars, this is the only oil I buy.
It's good that it is often on sale at Walmart as well. Bargain on high-quality oil.

I used that oil on my Honda S2000 from 100k-200k and it helped with the valve noise and chain tensioner pressure. I switched to Royal Purple right before I was rear ended, and it was even quieter, the car revved smoother, and it felt like it had more power. I'd be interested to know if anyone here has tried that brand in their Mercedes.

I'm curious to know what the PO's previous oil choice was?

I will be curious to know how much leaking or weeping takes place with the Mobil 1. Older motors having different tolerances than new ones tend to do this. As a result, I have just started using Castrol synthetic blend (in the green container) for high mileagers - too soon yet to tell results.

On 3/26 I changed my oil to synthetic....it already started leaking, maybe coincidence.
My oil pan is leaking around the back. I've noticed this before on a 99 A8 I used to own; synthetic oil would make it leak.
I will replace the oil pan gasket and see.

I like, and use Castrol Magnatec semi synthetic oil And have done for 4 years .Only oil leak i had was from the valve cover .Reason was it wanted replacing after 28 years of use. I would ask others to read up on the Magnatec oil for more information on this type of oil and what it will do for your engine .,

Yes Tomas7,this is very common with older cars ,people get talked into
using synthetic and find oil leaks do appear .
Its very hard to decide when to change from mineral oil, with Porsche
most dont until after air cooled 1989-90,other makes vary, etc.
With Mercedes ,the owner has to decide.

Classic dino oil as well for the 79, castrol 20W50, with less than 1000 miles a year. I tried the synthetic on the 85 Honda and it started to leak like a sieve, reverted to classic dino and the leaks have stopped...
On the jeep rotella (diesel specs) 15W40 comes in inexpensive gallon jug at wallyworld for $13, goes in the bimmer too for the last 10 years
