M117 fuel injector lube?

I have a 280sel 4.5 and am putting new injector seals on my fuel rails. What should I use as a "lube" to help them seat properly in their holes?

Try a bit of silicone grease. Barring that maybe some KY

As mentioned, silicone lube (tube, not the spray) is best but liquid dish soap will work in a pinch. Pretty much any non-petroleum based lube. Olive oil, peanut oil, dielectric grease etc.,

Just out of interest, why could petroleum based not be used? Those seals see oil and gasoline when in service. Presumably they, like the hoses, are made of a rubber type that is compatible with the fluid they see in service?

Interestingly, the shop manual says to use gasoline to help slide the hoses onto the injector barbs. They say not to use oil, grease or other sliding compounds! The hoses are, I guess designed to handle gasoline! Or maybe they don't want grease or silcones or soap or ??? getting into the injectors.

When I have replaced seals & injectors, I never gave the lubricant much thought. I pushed the new seals into the head first. Then the injectors were pushed into the seals. If the seals or the injector pintle caps were a little tight going into the seals, might have added a smear of brake fluid. Don't really recall. Never had any problems.

Personal preference on my part mostly. I'm not a big fan of using gasoline for any use other than as a fuel.

Have you ever seen what power steering fluid/ ATF does to the rubber in engine mounts?

One problem I recall someone having, was caused by injector refurbisher not using OE seals from dealer. Size not correct. Don't know what they cost these days, but I bought 2X amount needed of seals and pintle caps for not too many $$. I did buy the bigger clamping donuts at NAPA. Not too critical and they were much cheaper.

Haven't spilled ATF/PS fluid on engine mounts. But have seen what brake fluid does to engine bay paint!

I unfortunately have an abundance of KY Jelly (Kentucky Jelly?) lying in every dark recess of my house. FINALLY A USE FOR IT! I not sure if I remember how to use this product. Is it "lather, rinse, repeat"? Or, "if rash developes, discontinue use"?

For KY Jelly's applications google it away from the under 18 crowd.

Glycerine is the recommended lube when assembling air suspension bellows. It should work for your application as well.
