Hi guys, I've worked on a lot of different diesels and there all ways seems to be "tricks". How do you get the oil filter housing off the car? I can remove the filter, rotate the housing down and around but not out! The housing faces forward and hits lower a arm and steering rods, IP above it. Do I really have to remove the steering arm or just work with it where it is?

No need to disconnect anything...hm,what was it...engage rear to provide access to the allen screw on top of the filter head(if you have the top screw setup)...rotate steering wheel to clear room for taking out the filter canister.
Make sure the canister stem and bolt orifices are not plugged...clean the plastic mesh full flow filter,install a new by-pass filter.Reinstall with new gasket and copper waqsher...You may want to saturate the by-pass filter with oil...

Thanks Vox, I tried most of that, does engage rear mean put into reverse? I didn't try that and it might be enough. Good idea to saturate the filter first. Great picture!

Yep,reverse(y67,om621.918 in 200D,steering column shifter,basic).Hm ,weird..what else could be in the way?Maybe someone else will chime in. Jacking it up a bit?Now my motor mounts were shot...makes me wonder how my subframe mounts were too..and these are expensive.

Nevermind the red color here..the guy must have had a leaking gasket or something..random pic from net.

Be very careful with the line that comes from the filter head(goes to the mechanical oil pressure gauge in the instr.cluster).
