W114 speaker help

We've got a 70 W114 that, other than the fading paint, is nearly pristine. We love it.

The dash has one tiny crack, other than that the speaker grill has seen better days. I have no intention of changing over to stereo or replacing the Becker Europa, BUT I would like to get that grill off and replace the speaker fabric which is rotted.

Can someone give me a little guidance on the removal of the grill? I tried gently prying up on it but it seemed awfully stubborn.

Can't find a single thread anywhere on this.

Thanks!

It's held in by spring clips. Prying on it is how it is removed. Try spraying the edges with some mild detergent and letting it soak awhile.

W114 center speaker covers always look like crap. They are upholstered in such a way that it deteriorates and there isn't a lot you can do about it. One member on this forum or on Benzworld managed to re-do his and you might be able to search for the thread. I don't know where it is.

I recovered mine with black sun shade material. It's not OEM but it looks decent and doesn't muffle the sound.

Shade Cloth 90 - CatalogClearance as an example.

You can get it at about any big box store, Ace Hardware, etc.

Get the 90% UV, knitted kind not the black mesh they sell for screening.
