New to 1974 W114 - 230.6, need help Zenith Accel Pump!

Hello,
First Mercedes, usually dabble with old VW or Porsches, this 1974 230.6 just came home last week. I knew it needed carb work and I'm not afraid to sort things out, plenty of good adjustment material available for these 35/40 Zenith units and I've already opened them up for a look. I quickly realized the car would not start unless fed gas directly to the carb and found the cause to be both accelerator pumps not pumping. Upon inspection, my accelerator pumps appear to have been "upgraded" at some time to the mostly plastic type, not the one's that appear to be all brass and the seal appears to be "upgraded" to the lousy blue neoprene or rubber type unit. The plastic will not retain the blue seal and keeps dumping it in the bottom of the tapered cylinder area. My "new" car excitement is slowing leaving me as I can't seem to find any source for better accelerator pump piston bodies (oem type) and a seal that might possibly hold on and function, like the leather or the black ones I've seen perhaps. Car sounds good when started with fuel directly so I look forward to driving it once I get past this part availability predicament I seem to be in.

Help needed!
Thanks all,
Diehard from Alabama

Alternatives

Let me try another avenue, perhaps there is a more readily available accelerator seal that is compatible with our piston type. For instance if someone has retrofit a gm quadajet seal with good results, that would be easy to order and afford.

Or perhaps someone has the black seal type and I reuse my piston.

Thanks for looking,
Diehard
