M116 engine mounts
Hello.
I had my mechanic try to swap out the engine mounts on my '71 3.5 coupe today. He failed. This is very unusual..he's a very competent individual. Short of taking half the front of the car apart he cannot see how to get them out..is there something we are missing here..these are the part. I believe it was the central bolt that was so inaccessible, although he was also blaspheming about one or more of the allen head bolts. I know it's tight down there, but it doesn't seem right that the job should be so tough. I will see him tomorrow to pick the car up, and learn more..but if anyone has any tips and pointers in the meantime I'd be grateful, thanks. Cheers Dave

Ha..I shall answer my own query..he couldn't do it because he had the car up in the air and was trying to do it from underneath. Gotta come in from the top. Happy days.

Might help to drop the subframe-if you need engine mounts you probably need subframe mounts also.

You're probably right. I did the subframe mounts a couple of months ago, that wasn't too bad a job, just did it on the drive without any bother. They were fantastically knackered. I spoke to him earlier, he seems happy enough now.
