1970 W114 No Rockers...how do I jack up the front end
I have no rockers and need to jack up the front to do some work. Where do I place the floor jack and then the stands?
Thanks everyone! |
Front axle, under either side of the front suspension, etc. If you have no rockers I would say jack it up with a floor jack under the front axle and put the jack stands under the A-arms or whatever that part of the suspension is called.

Assuming your w114 has a similar underside as my w115, I would suggest that you jack up using the cross member in front of the engine. This always works well for me.
Regarding the jack stands, it would depend on what work you are doing. If you are doing suspension work, I would put the stand on the frame part that parallels the exhaust pipe behind the engine (and on the other side of the car as well, of course). It sticks down a little further than the rest of the underside, which indicates it has the strength required. They are somewhat inboard and might seem a little sketchy, but it is not like the car will be able to flip over even if you were to only support it right down the middle. If you are not doing suspension work, just follow ScooterABC's recommendations of the A-arms. |

OP, after installing the jack stands, I would suggest that you keep the floor jack installed as well with a very small load on it (just enough to hold in in place). I have always felt safer with more points of contact holding up the car. But obviously if it makes doing your work more difficult or awkward, having the jack there is not worth the hassle. |

I'll give it a go and she how well my front axle is in shape. I think we previously did that but it's been a while. Thanks everyone!
