W108 Sunroof Issues

Hi all,

I replaced my front seal that was basically calcified and hard as a rock. Not fun getting the new one in at all but I did it.

Now I'm having an issue where the driver side rear corner doesn't go up and seal all the way.

As far as I can tell I reinstalled the felt seals and their guides correctly. But if I remove either side felt seal, the sunroof will seat properly again.

In my experience, the only front seal that will fit properly is the MBZ seal. The aftermarket seals are also extremely difficult to install and can disallow the roof to slide completely to the front - this may or may not contribute to your problem. Be sure that this seal is firmly against the lip it is mounted to and that no high spots are there. The best way to tell is by running your finger along the entire length of the seal.

If the side felts are causing the problem, it's possible that you switched their respective sides. The roof is adjustable laterally, so if it's closer to one side than the the other, one felt will be thicker than the other from wear.
