Driveshaft flex disc swap

Evening.

I need to swap out the flexible (rubber) driveshaft disc, part no. 1264100215, on my w111. Part is no. 213 on this page.

I was wondering whether I need to do anything funky such as remove the prop centre bearing/drop the exhaust etc before it can be swapped out.

It looks simple enough but if there are any tips I'd be grateful, thanks.

Dave

I've not worked on your vehicle type before but I imagine it is similar to the ones I have despite the rigid rear axle. Often the exhaust will be in the way. The way to replace the flex discs is to undo the big nut near to the centre bearing - either 41mm and 46 mm needed on a diesel engined W123 but I don't know if this is the same for your vehicle

Once centre nut is undone you can slide the propshaft a bit once the flex disc bolts are out. This helps you to "bend" the shaft and pull it away from the underside of the car. Before the bending - mark the position of the propshaft. Vehicles from about the mid 1970s have factory marks - again I don't know about your vehicle.

As always is it best to get a copy of the FSM

The flex discs often have instructions molded into them in German saying which way round they go.

In the W123 FSM there's a warning about not letting the bolts spin when doing up / undoing

I always apply a wafer thin smear of anti-seize on the fit only once stiff nuts (not approved FSM procedure) but it helps getting them off again.

Seems like a good time to assess the condition of the propshaft splines - perhaps clean them out and regrease
