W108/109 - Power Window Motor
It looks like I need to replace the drivers side rear window motor. Anyone know how much they cost new. I was told pricing is possibly into four figures for a new one.
Can they be rebuilt or should I chance on a used one. |

I don't think a power window motor is in the 4 figure range.
For example, you can find an OEM brand new front window motor and regulator for about $400 on eBay and the fronts are more expensive than the rears. Make sure it's the motor that needs replacing on yours as it's not too common for a motor to go out. If it is, a good used one is fairly cheap and will last you a long time. |

Used motors are probably fine. It's the regulators themselves that bend and then cause slippage. So I wouldn't fear a used motor. I might have one laying around somewhere even, but it'll take me a few weeks to be able to look (it isn't at my house).

Thank you for the replies. It is both the regulator and motor. I found a NOS motor on Ebay. Do you guys know if the front and rear motors (same side) are interchangeable?

There are two different type of motors. One is a square box looking thing with a single drive coming out of the end attached to a rubber coupling. The coupling attaches to the gearbox which is a part of the regulator assembly.
The other is a motor and gearbox assembly that bolts to the regulator. The early cars use the square motor. I think the break came in 1969 but I am not sure. You need to remove the door card and pull out the regulator to be sure. On the early regulator there is a wheel you can turn to operate the window if the motor fails. |

I put a rear on the front. I forget if I had to swap the arm but I think all I had to do was adjust the stop. The right and left do not interchange, though.

Thanks again guys. I will pull the door card to check. Mine is a late 72 (build date 06/72).

And the front and back are the same on the 108. There is an adjustment that must be made but you would need to adjust the regulator after installation anyway since it will have been adjusted to the door it came from. This is not hard but it is tedious. But once it's done you almost never have to do it again. |
