‘72 250 power steering leak

My power steering is leaking where the high pressure hose connects to the pump. I’ve obviously tried tightening - not sure if I just have to keep tightening or not...

Would Teflon tape or something similar help stop the leak? It’s leaking from the threaded connection....

I also have what looks like a leak around the reservoir cap. I have replaced the seal that’s inside the cap but I’m still getting fluid accumulating on top of the cap! Kind of weird!

Any thoughts?

Thanks, Ryan

Symptoms of a clogged PS filter, it is in the bottom of the reservoir. Remove it and see if the leak at the cap stops, if it does the filter was clogged. I'm thinking the leak at the threads could be fluid from the cap running onto the threads, teflon tape should not be necessary there but could be used.

Good luck!!!

The reservoir is not attached to the pump on my car - it’s mounted a couple of feet away....

I will check on the filter - thanks!

The leak is very clearly coming from the hose connection to the pump...

I cannot picture that set-up, I don't know if it has a filter.

Good luck!!!

It has a filter...reservoir looks pretty much the same, it's just separate from the pump. I'm really trying to figure out how to get this hose to stop leaking...

Try removing the fitting and looking closely for cracks, hopefully there are none. If no cracks are present try tightening, loosening and retightening the fitting several times to reform the seat. Teflon tape can be used it just isn't usually necessary.

Is the leak new?

I have removed the hose, retightened, etc...don't see any obvious reasons why its leaking...

Leak is not new....just started driving the car more here lately, but it's leaked for a long time...
