Steve McQueen's 6.3

https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/mercedes-benz/300sel/1931505.html

Came across this while surfing the net. Steve McQueen was a real car guy.

This car has been for sale forever. The celebrity cachet hardly counts for anything, most folks these days have no clue or care who Steve McQueen was. 6.3 values have tanked over the last few years. This is a 50K car at best.

Yeah, celebrity hardly counts for anything.

When did 6.3 values peak and begin going down? I know about 15 years ago Gerry sold his 6.3 for a bit over $10k if memory serves, and it was an excellent running and driving car that just needed paint. I've seen 6.3s that don't even run sold for over $20k.

Just wondering where you've seen 6.3s sell for less recently than in the past is all.

Look at recent sales on Bring a Trailer. A 6.3 that would have fetched 75K 5 years ago is now a 30K car. Baby boomers are dropping out of the market and there is weak appetite for their cars. Do you really think the average 40 year old knows who Steve McQueen is or even cares? Don't get me started on millenials...

My now-deceased employer left an army Jeep to my business partner and me that he purchased from the Steve McQueen collection. This was a lesser-known vehicle in the Steve McQueen collection.

Take a look at what it went for in a recent auction (after our ownership)

I miss you, Mr Mac. 25 years was a short time together

Wow-I was born in New Braunfels. I looked at my childhood home on Streetview and I was not impressed.

I have a 6.3 here in N Texas that was running when i parked it (and I have a video to prove it!) for $8.5k if anyone wants it. Right now, it's resting in pieces.
It's had at least one famous owner (famous for buying huge projects and not finishing them off).

Here's another Steve McQueen car that has fetched a high price. The name does add value.

Not sure if the link will work-it's from my subscription. $3.74 Million for a $45K car

Yea, but its not just of McQueen's notoriety; its the very car he drove in the now iconic movie "Bullit", and unrestored.

Ironically my favorite Steve McQueen movie "Papillon" he doesn't drive anything.
