Hubcap ID help req'd please
G'day Folks,
I've been playing silly buggers - bought a set of hubcaps sight unseen because the seller said their outer diameter was 41.5cm For those who may not know 41.5cm is a magic number when it comes to metal hubcaps - that's the outer diameter width of the rare 15 inch wheel hubcaps The problem is that the larger hubcaps - that are still available new from Mercedes (!) - are super expensive. When I saw these on offer I thought it was well worth the gamble just to see if they are likely to fit - or (more probably) if they can be adapted to fit 15 inch wheels... ...so here they are=> The number of slots in the circumference make me think these are for 13 inch wheels - all the pictures I've seen on the interweb of the 15 inch wheels look just like the 14 inch version but bigger - similar slot design around the circumference too Note also the gucci little hole for the valve stem However, the overall diameter is indeed 41.5cm (as sold) and they are noticeably larger than the 14 inch hubcaps of which I have man many examples => ^^^^^^^14 inch hubcap on the left^^^^^^^^ The 14 inch hubcaps have a shallow dish => Whilst the "unknown" hubcaps look like something Madonna might have worn on her "Blond Ambition Tour" The strangest thing is that if they are 13 inch hubcaps these do indeed seem a bit wide => ^^^^^Again 14 inch hubcap on the left^^^^^ ####### So this is a question for the Vintage section: Does anyone have the dimensions of a thirteen inch hubcap for me? Can anyone help ID what I've been and gone and bought?

Stretch,
Those appear to be from the type W186/W189 cars of the 1950s. "Adenauer Mercedes" |

They do indeed look like that => https://nemigaparts.com/cat_spares/epc/mercedes/1/fg/189010/z23/40/030/ And they do indeed happen to be for 15 inch wheels too. Would you happen to know if the spacing for the wheel bolts has always been the same for Mercedes (5 X 112)? In other words if I can find a set of Adenauer wheels could I fit them to my W123? (I wouldn't be surprised if the originals are riveted and need inner tubes of course - so I might have to go for W124 / W201 15 inch wheels and weld on the clamps for the hubcaps - fiddle about with offsets etc)

I wouldn't weld to a wheels center, that can create a stress riser and possible breakage of the center. To see these on a car, posts 44 and 57 https://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/vintage-mercedes-forum/373976-new-guy-here-true-barn-find-w189.html |

Those look like the 15" wheel covers my fintail wagon is supposed to have, but they are of course, missing. Wish I could find a set because they should fit any steel 15" rim, I would think. Good find.

You got something special. Those are for an Adeneaur (sp) or an early 600. The late 15" wheel covers are the flat ones and you can get them. The early ones not so much. Good find. Post a pic of the back side of them.

Here are some fintail wagons with the 8-hole version you have.

But those are 13" wheels, right?

Nice score! Those hubcaps alone are probably worth more than most sets of wheels for these cars!

No, they're 15" wheels, which was standard on the wagons.

Thanks guys - I thought I'd bought a set of junk there for a moment.
I'll post up some more pictures of the underside as requested tomorrow. It looks like the centre cap could be removed from the outer ring (but I'm not sure I've got the gonads to try that now!) #### @Ziad - er thanks for the email - I'm not planning to sell them yet - I've just got them! (PM sent)

Adenauer 15" Hubcaps
They look like two piece hub cap and trim rings but I guess not .
I'm surprised you took all those pictures and none of them flipped over . My Graymarket W123 300TD has 15" wheels and I hope i never loose a hub cap . What's the W123 15" hub cap P/N you said is still available ? . Both the Fintail wagon and hearse make me pant with desire .
