76 280c trans kickdown

I have this 722.102 transmission . held pedal to floor didn't accelerate faster heard some weird noise. what is the kickdown ? parked vechile started it back up no drive or reverse moved small linkage arm on trans back and forth now goes in drive and reverse ?? is there a certain way to adjust kickdown im not familuiar with kickdown please help

Kickdown is excuted via a bar that goes across the top of the motor . My car is 2 hours away otherwise I'd take a picture. The bar does have adjustments.
I believe there's also a switch at the bottom of your gas pedal. Let's wait and have the other more knowledgeable listers chime in.
