Oil Filter Spring

So no replies. I tried to order the spring and apparently it is discontinued and no longer available. If somebody has one and can send me a picture and dimensions I'll fab one. Thanks

When you tried to order, was this from a US based Mercedes dealer or other vendor?

Generally filter springs are just to hold one end of the filter against a housing for good sealing however it may also act as a filter bypass regulator. If there is a built in filter bypass, then most any replacement spring will do, just don't make it too stiff as to crush the element..

Having a filter bypass is critical during cold starts / operation as not having one can cause the filter element to collapse.

Ordered from Pelican, and MB Dealer with other parts coming from overseas I'm assuming because of the wait time. Both came back not available.
I don't have on to copy that's the issue. It was taken out and not replaced by previous owner. I firmly believe that it needs to be there. So the search continues..

What other engines use this filter element? Perhaps another number would turn up parts.

Good question! I have seen it called a "Transmission spring" but it was still the same number. The configuration of the filter changed on later diesels but I haven't found another number.
