Huf 8700 locking gas cap key number....

This is a tough one. I found a Mercedes locking gas cap in a box of 108 parts I picked up at a garage sale. It says on the bottom '8700 ohne luftung Huf'.

I have run across three different key numbers for this. Anyone know which is correct? I can make a key if I can get the right blank.

This thing is all frozen up so it will need a total rebuild. I might be able to determine the key necessary once I get it apart. But if anyone knows the right number it would be quite helpful.

It's going to be the same key that fits the door or glovebox of the car it came from, and that changes over time and model. The text just means that it's unvented.

Thanks. I have a lot of door and glovebox keys already so I will just start trying them.

I was thinking it was a smaller key like you would receive with an aftermarket locking gas cap from the era. In my area those were necessary during the gas shortage of the early 70's so I had a lot of them.

If it's an MB gas cap then it uses one of the other keys to the car. Post a pic of gas cap.

Please read what Idle wrote. He bought the cap at a garage sale which makes it quite difficult to match up with a key from any particular car.

I did pick this up at a garage sale. There were some other parts I didn't recognize since they were not Mercedes. But I did see a set of rather rusted out 108 license plate lights. I bought the box not because the chrome light holders were any good but because the plastic lenses were in perfect shape.

This looked like a box someone had put up many years ago, like they were parts off of a car they were working on. The gas cap was in the box along with some head bolts and rocker arms springs that looked like they came from a 111.

This looks like it will be one of those long projects to play with. I am going to disassemble the cap and clean everything inside. It comes apart with a large snap ring on the bottom.
