New project zone, heater core with plastic knobs

Alright, ive powered through my mechanical issues, struggling to make this car run, now i fixed it (for the 267939726272th time) i want to expand my hands to the heater core in the dash. I say this because i noticed my heater core is full of erm... stuff... stuff that is to the human eye poop needless to say, so what i did for the meantime i cleaned the block and new cylinder head by using aomething called thermacure or something like that when i first got the car to clean the system and it worked really nicely! (Until i found out my old cylinder head was busted, i tore it down to the block and found my block was clean as a whistle) so for the time being since i replaced the head i isolated the heater core so that the engine cooling system is bre bones, just going through the radiator, thermostat, bypass hose and main components in the engine. Since i know the heater core is part of the cooling system i would like to know how to tear the dash apart to take the heater core out, because if its the situation with the radiator i might need to replace it as a unit. Or if there is anyway to flush out the core with a pressure washer if its possible? Also i managed to break off all the plastic pieces that control it long ago when i first got the car.. id like to know if there is any replacements for that.. so two thigs. How to tear the dash apart or see if i can flush it, and if there is any replacement parts for the plastic control knobs. Also if i can just change those out without having to tear the dash apart either. Thanks.

The heater core actually slides out from underneath the dash. There is a vinyl dash pad, but the steel behind it is welded to the body, so removing the dash pad will be of no benefit. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/vintage-mercedes-forum/288417-fintail-heater-core-r-r.html

Yes, if it's the Kühlmeister system, you can simply remove the bolt on each side and slide it off to the side or on the passenger seat.

I think it's likely that it should be able to be unbolted and moved off to the side without disconnecting any hoses.

I tried to follow the article step by step but the glovebox doesn't want to pop out, I almost broke it from how brittle it was on a bracket to hold it in. so I put it back, do I really need to remove it? I think my arm for the wiper motor is in the way plus this box for the AC which I have no idea what it does or what to do with it. https://photos.app.goo.gl/2fgasHhQQKwmR63f9

Oh! On the early fintails (early 1965 and earlier), the glove box has a bracket riveted on the right side of it, to which a spring attaches, which holds the right side heater vent in place (on later vehicles the bracket was welded to the dashboard frame). Make sure you unhook the spring from the bracket on the side of the glove box.

It appears you have an amplifier for the radio at the firewall behind the glove box. The wiper motor arm shouldn't be in the way. But, with that said, you might not have to remove the glove box.

Ok still trying to follow article, i have NOT removed the glovebox or ashtray, i have removed the AC unit like yours and carefully swung it out of the way and now im kinda stumped what to do next, one ten is missing from the box i assume since i only see a ten on the driver side facing me, and it seems like that amplifier for the radio might be blocking my box escape route not sure, just kinda looking for whats next on the list without photos besides my own https://photos.app.goo.gl/2fgasHhQQKwmR63f9

I think you'll have to remove the carpet and the plastic ducting underneath and on each side of the heater box. The one 10mm bolt you see is just one that holds on the plastic ducting, not one of the ones that holds the heater box in place. The 10mm bolts that hold the heater box in place should be at the bottom left and right corners of the case, but back up against the firewall. There is also one at the very top of the case, in the center, holding it to the underside of the dashboard metal; it should be able to be reached with a socket and a long extension. I can't tell if the amplifier will obstruct anything.

It seems like my ducts go to the middle and all the way to the back, the ducts seemto be stuck on something because as i tug on the one that had the 10 already missing it moves and wiggles but it wont come free and i think the amp WILL get in the way but its a mess on that side with the a c and miscellanious items. Not only this i saw the spring in the glovebox and i stll havent removed it yet, seems like ifi remove it i might have a little more room https://photos.app.goo.gl/2fgasHhQQKwmR63f9
