Double din radio, stealth mode.

A year or two ago some lowlife was breaking into the old Mercedes's in my neighbourhood, the door locks being not the most particular as to what key is used.

Lost a rather expensive TomTom on the first visit, the second time I was broken into a trolley jack and my collection of small tools. ( what type of scum steals someone's car jack ? )

My aftermarket car radio wasn't worth taking apparently, but my new one maybe so, here's my solution ...

Interesting! What is the double din head unit showing the Mercedes logo? (I'm asking what model it is and what the capabilities are)

Hehe, yeah my old Benz would unlock with a flathead screw driver. One time I was with friends and saw a 300D and I told them I knew how to unlock it.

They didn't believe me so I stuck in my house key and turned. Sure enough, the lock opened right up. Relocked it of course.

I never left anything of value in the cabin. It went right in the trunk whose lock was strangely a lot more hefty.

That's a Sony xav-ax100, they went down from 500 to 300 in Europe this year.

It supports Apple Carplay, and, I believe, the Android equivalent, which means I have hands free calls, can navigate through the music on my phone using its touch screen and use navigation, Google Maps or Waze, assuming I have internet connection on my phone.

... since I'm plugging in my phone to charge it while driving anyway.

I can also go " Hey, Siri, play some country and western please ", and she does.

You can also use the screen for a reversing camera, and it will play movies via usb apparently. Big selling points for me were the simplicity of operation, a physical volume knob and an idiot proof graphic equalizer.

No CD player, which is a blessing in disguise, imho.
