1966 250S has Locking steering or not ?

Wow I found another one : A 1966 Euro 250S 4 door sedan

Has no Keys but the Guy says the steering wheel does turn . Does that year have locking Steering ?
Ignition Switch is in place .

Note : The Car " IS " a Euro Model ( perhaps the Euro Models don't have locking steering ? )

I note that US 1967 " do have " locking steering



Anyone know by chance ?

All chassis made from the 1959 W111 should have locking steering, I think.

Possible that ignition key was removed in an "off" position but not "Lock" position. Is this a dead car that you are considering for purchase?

Yes a Dead Car I am looking at on Sunday . 1966 250 S Euro
(1) Photos show Very Good looking ( well you know how that can change Photo to eyeball
Interior parts ! )
(2) Euro Model
(3) Sunroof
(4) Standard shift Floor Linkage
I well share the Car if I don't buy it for consideration and as well if I do Buy it
Has not run in Many Years but has a Look about it like all the Rubber under the Hood look's good and everything is Their and on the Car not in box's
(5) I see Floor Rust in the Trunk in the usual places , Spare tire well and the Drivers side well ( What I want to see in just how bad the Rust is , wheel wells , Lower Rear Quarters . > The Trunk Area's don't bother me so much really but when it becomes Stage 4 Cancer type Rust , well that changes the car from a possible (A) daily Driver to a(B) Parts car . Just my Opinion

(7) Vin # well I ran the Vin and its off the CA DMV PC so that's a +
as its easy then to get a pink in CA these days
( especially if your friends with the Manger like I am )

I posted the 67 I Got before . I got it for Free ! Yes it happens sometimes . As well I got a 67 parts car also for Free . I would post Photos ? Buy I can't understand how to post Photos except when the Post is New on the first Post ?
I got the 67 250S running in a few days but did not bother to put kits in the Carbs yet
It runs and drive's Great excepting when its cold as gaskets are missing in the Carbs and torn one's I installed back in . Rear Carb is missing some all togeather ( I just wanted to see if the car was worth Buying kits and such ) The Carbs where All apart in the trunk in about 6 small containers all mixed up lol but that did not bother me these Carbs are so primitive and simple Zenith 2 Br's .

Yes perhaps the Key is on Off and not on Lock ? that's possible
Belonged to a Uncle of the sellers Friend and was parked at his Shop for many many years in the Sacramento Area . Now the Poor Guy has Medical Issues and the seller needs to let the Car go for Personal reasons .

I've had a few of these locks apart. Not really apart so much as done what work on them as I could.

All 111 have locking steering, but the steering lock tends to stick on cars that have been setting. (I usually find the lock to be a Neiman 95 so you could search for one of these on line to see a photo of what you are dealing with.)

So do the lock pins. Or they tend to break. For a car that has not had the ignition turned in about twenty years it is possible, sometimes, to stick a large flat screwdriver in the ignition key hole and turn it. It takes a bit of a twist but there is a good chance it will turn.

Because everything is sort of frozen in place. To break it loose will also break most of the lock pins which are rather small and weak to begin with.

These assemblies can be serviced to work like new, with some play in them from wear of course, but they will move smoothly and snap into lock position when you are finished.

You have to drop the steering column to take out the ignition lock, or at least I do, but then it comes out easily. A little light oil in the right place and everything starts moving again.

yes it has locking steering I discovered upon looking . I think I well indeed try to brake the lock Via Screwdriver . if that fails i think you can remove the instrument cluster
and then access a bolt that holds the lock in place and remove it . this well un lock the steering .. next Sunday we hope to pick up the Car

I was Able to Brake the Lock after considerable Hammering into the lock it finally broke free to turn . thanks for the Tip IDLE
So the Beast is loaded and off to Nevada Last Sunday PM - all the Parts I wanted like the in Great condition Wood Trim / the Steering wheel / The Arm Pad's under the windows at top of the door panels / and some Miscellaneous Chrome trim I needed all in great shape .
In Exchange the Buyer provided by Me Via this Forum in fact Get's a Great parts car with what seems to be a Good engine with some 109 K Miles a standard shift Transmission and in fact the whole rest of the car rusty in several places but with lots of goodies like the Euro Headlights for example all for only $300

I have had my mechanic disable the locking feature in a couple of my old drivers. It is fairly easy and a lot cheaper than putting in a new switch.
