Just totaled my 220d

Hello I am new to this forum . I bought a really nice 73 220 D with manual windows transmission and manual steering. It took my a long time to discover how nice it actually is . I bought a long way from me after a 8 month search looking for the nicest w123 240 4 speed . All the 123 were beat. The 73 was perfect except it needed some polishing and a lot of maintenance. Well after I got it running great and rebuilt the center bearing flex disks front sub fram bushings and new brakes the thing drives so very nice. And it handles well. Stops great door close so nice with that sound. The mileage is unknown but there is no chips on the front of the original light ivory paint and no chips in Original windshield. No rust except for battery tray and a perfect dash seats and headliner. I paid 4K for it and put 2k in it and at least 80 hours of repairs by my self. I think the insurance is gonna total it they stoped the estimate at 10 grand . There are not other 220 d manual everything for sale anyware except on Auto Trader there’s one for 17 k. Can the 220D be that rare now? I can’t replace it with a w123 not the same not open inside and doesn’t handle like a BMW. I am really sorry for this car as I have become attached to it . I thought I was bringing it back to life fixing al the stuff and restoring the original paint but it got crushed on my watch. I can’t let this car get totaled but how much should I take to walk away. The rear crushed the possible NLA rear floor pan and rear early style chrome bumper and Bent some stuff underneath . Sorry Mercedes Fans Wayne.”

how about posting pics for us to look at?

as far as the settlement goes you can also buy back the salvage, did you ask what they want for that?

Often you can buy the salvage and get it repaired yourself and come out ahead.

What's the old saw? When g-d closes a trunk, he rolls down a window?

Look in the cars-for-sale and you'll find a sweet W123 you can buy with those insurance funds...

Hello pictures to follow. I’m nervous that the insurance company will see this so hang tight. There is only two 220D for sale that I can find in the US one on Autotrader Classic for 14k and one on Craigslist in Florida for 11000. I know the 220D is not super valuable but I can only find two for sale. I looked Nationwide on Craigslist and Autotrader classic . They won’t discuss salvage. The want my car.

An insurance company is generally obligated to either pay you what your car is worth or buy you another car. In that case you are free to ask for a car. Everything is negotiable. If you have patience and are willing to find supporting facts of value you usually can do a lot better than their first offer. ,... and never sign off on personal injury until the deal for the car is done. You can say your neck took a great jar and you want to wait and see how it turns out for few months.

It is the adjuster's job to settle with you for the least possible.

I really need to get my 220D back on the road. They are unbeatable! Definitely take the time to find another if you can't get yours fixed at an economical price.

Also if you can't find a good 220D think about a 190DC or 200D. They're the W110 chassis and are just as good performers as the venerable 220 Diesel despite being a little older!

I know you're looking for a diesel, but this 115 220 just came up on BAT today. Pretty nice looking car, four speed on the column:
