1967 250S power steering pump interchange
Car is a 1967 250S sedan
What Years and models well Work ? I want to Convert my Standard Steering to power Steering . I have the 1967 power steering Unit from a parts car ( 1967 250SE ) but not the Pump . I note the 250S Front Crank Pulley takes Wide belts so I need a wide Belt Pump unless I change out the Crank Pulley. As the car sits now it only has 1 Belt for the alternator and fan and 2 empty wide slots for wide Belts it look like . Of course I know 1967 well work but what other Years and Models well work ? Example a 300 Mercedes pump perhaps ? the Car is a bit Hard to turn for low speed parking and I want the wife to learn to drive it as well . It is a standard column shift 4 speed and to Learn to shift and drive it well be perhaps better with Power steering I think. My Guess is that I need a early type Pump ? |

The S/SE straight 6 111/108 cars will be comparable, with the reservoir mounted at the top of the pump. The double belt is what benz considered necessary to keep driving the pump.

Do you also have a correct steering column? I think the power and manual steering columns are different lengths. Could be wrong.

Thanks guys So the Column is different ? Darn ! That may put a stopper if correct. Project Car (in Photo) 67 250S is a Column Shift 4 speed stick shift Column . As such if they are different then I can't Swap the Power steering Box from my 67 250 SE ( automatic Transmission Column shift ) parts Car Over to my 67 250 S stick shift Column then ? Here is a Nice 1968 BTW : https://imgur.com/a/4VtrSXc I looked at the steering Box's and although they are different lengths it looked like they would just swap out . I was thinking I may have to swap out the Pitman arm as well perhaps . I suspected it may have a different Curve Power to non Power as the Box's are different Lengths I have swapped Out many Non Power to Power Boxs before when I worked for Chev dealer in 1966 / 67 . The salesmen wanted to make that sale TODAY but the Pay was Good I thought back then . But that's a Different Car all together. Thanks form the input . I am off to Las Vegas for a week but well check closer when I get back to the coast . Most likley I well just have to pull the Power Unit and try it on ? is only I think 3 or 4 Bolts and pop the Arm loose then try it . BTW Whats different about them if you know by chance ? You thinking is ? that the shaft size is different perhaps ?
on a trip now for a week > But I looked close and the shaft size looks the same . it Looks like I could just Pull both Steering box's and swap them out ( I was hoping ) .. Of course the Column Shift Linkage ( 4 speed ) is different Totally I expect then the Auto trans Column linkage . The Power steering Box is quite Longer but extends Down toward the Front of the Car not up toward the firewall , That seems to be in the same place Most likley the Pitman Arm is different but I have them . Evan all the hose's are still on the 67 Pars Car in fact but no pump This one came in today .. https://www.picknpull.com/vehicle_details.aspx?VIN=RNDE3cVgCDcM4bdZaTOgcsK8i But I was about to leave San Francisco and was thinking it may have the Narrow belts rather then the wide Belts for the power steering box .. then I thought I better see if the Steering box's interchange or not first. Perhaps I could Change the Front Crank pulley tho the work continues lol |
