W115 - what the heck are these things?

Hi folks!

See image here: http://imgur.com/gallery/BuFXw1C

1974 240D

What are these three things on the bulkhead? Stuck at home due to COVID so am trying to fix the interior leaks on my car (an uphill struggle!)

Currently got half the dashboard out and thought I'd take a look at the engine side of where one of the leaks appears to be coming from. (It's been raining all day so the perfect time to work on this!)

Anyway, these three "things" (!) on the bulkhead appear to be seeping water and I can also see that the middle one has been bunged up with a rag or something!

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I would guess they are A/C system condensation drain holes. the one on the right appears to be missing the flap. Does the one with flap move out and return a bit?

The one plugged with paper towel is probably to deep engine fumes from entering the cabin.

Water drains for the cowl area between the bottom of the windshield and the back of the hood. The flappers are supposed to be one way gates to let water exit only. Confirm that they are not blocked.

I've read they are NLA???

Great, thanks for the info!

They're a bit gunked up but still flowing. I'll give them a decent clean out (and remove the random piece of rag blocking one of them!)

Sunroof - done already!

Hood hinge pockets - where exactly are those? Definitely need to get that sorted!

Look under the hood hinges. The hinge folds down into them as you close the hood.

The W115's hood hinge and spring setup is different from later cars. It doesn't have the deep pockets with drains. But the idea of keeping the area clean and debris-free is a good one.

Yes they are different, I was thinking W123. Thanks for pointing it out.

Been thinking about the cowl drain without a check "flapper" and the possibility of engine fumes getting pulled into the cabin. It may be worth making a flap that uses gravity to close but opens to let water out like a scupper on a boat transom.

Good luck!!!
