Cardinal W115 interior wiring sin committed (not keeping track of wires) - I'm sorry!

Hi folks,

Firstly, I realize that this was a dumb move, so I take full responsibility for this and will learn from it

I took apart my centre console last week to fix a bulkhead leak. Fingers crossed that is now done, so I've started putting everything back together again (cleaner and fresher than before).

Unfortunately, in my haste to remove the dash, I failed to keep track of all the wiring behind the console, in favour of a "oh I'm sure I'll remember where everything goes when I put it all back together" attitude (disclaimer: you won't remember - take the time to label everything to avoid being in my current situation!

So, to avoid potentially frying my beloved 240Ds wiring, I was hoping the exceedingly knowledgeable people here would be able to help me ensure I plug everything into the right spots (with the battery disconnected!)

Where do all these go?

Photo #1:

A spade connector - looks like it's just an earth on a screw that sits between the top of the centre console and the main body of the dashboard

Photo #2:

Not sure what this connector is called!

Photo #3:

There's two of these connectors on the same piece of loom. The other one I've already got plugged in (as seen in the photo) as I'd kept track of that one, but I can't recall whether this one was just an extra one, or if it goes somewhere (I think it's just an extra but could be wrong)

Photo #4:

Little LED bulb! If I recall it goes somewhere on the passenger side of the console, but there doesn't seem to be anywhere obvious...

Photo #5:

Random wire without a proper connector. I'm 90% sure it fits to another bare-ended wire that fits to the factory stereo (if I remember correctly the connection fell off when I removed everything). Can anyone confirm?

Photo #6:

Another spade connector. I would assume it goes on to the corresponding spade connector on this boxy thing that was in the cavity behind the console (what is that thing anyway?), because the other multiplug connector fits into the matching slot on the same box.

Photo #7:

Back of the cigarette lighter. Not sure which plug connects to it.

Thanks for any assistance! Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to put the full interior back in for the first time since the fall

Cheers

I can't reload the photos but recall #2 is a fiber optic that would illuminate a switch or HVAC control. See how far it will reach and then look for a place it will plug into within the range of its reach.

#4 shift indicator light.
#6 I agree.
Brown wires are ground.

Good luck!!!

I've re-uploaded the photos to a different site now. Can you see them?

So,

1: Earth. Into the back of the cigarette lighter (confirmed)
2: Fiber optic. Plugs to somewhere logical..!
3: ?
4: Seatbelt light (confirmed)
5: Into other stereo wire (confirmed)
6: Spade connector plugs into stereo amp (confirmed)
7: ?

Thanks!

the brown is ground, probably radio or dash pod ground.
fiber optic -Find a small hole, probably the temp slider area
the two prong is lighter ,
the bulb looks like a dashpod lamp

I have the actual wire diagram if worse come to worse

Pic 1 - don't know. What's missing a ground?
Pic 2 - fiber optic that probably goes from right side of the console (look for something that looks like a flush-mount plastic button, pop it out, it's probably a light bulb) and other end goes in some sort of switch to illuminate it, or ignition key, or...?
Pic 3 - might go to cigarette lighter
Pic 4 - don't know.
Pic 5 - really don't know.
Pic 6 - This is a becker amplifier that is part of your radio. If the big grey cord isn't cut, it goes into the back of your radio. If it is cut, then your radio is gone. The spade connector goes where it looks like it would go on the back of the amp.
Pic 7 - see if this goes with Pic 3

Thanks for the info - almost sorted it all now.

One more photo (got two identical plugs!):

One of these two identical plugs goes to the cigarette lighter.

- First connector fits on to the same circuit as the side on the right side of the console and the wire comes from underneath the left/driver's side of the dash, under the dash pod.
- Second connector comes from under the centre of the dash and is on the same circuit as the fasten seatbelt light

Any ideas which one fits the cigarette lighter?

Thanks

If you have A/C the one plug is probably for the "squirrel cage" motor.

I don't have AC so one has to be a spare plug - I just don't want to plug the wrong one in and potentially fry something (would that even happen?)

Any other ideas?

Thanks! It's a 1974. That will be very helpful!

I have a 50/50 chance of getting it right I guess (but diagrams are of course better!)

Identify the cigarette lighter fuse and test for continuity between the wire and the fuse. If continuity that's the circuit. You may need to turn the key on to complete the circuit.

Good luck!!!

Impressive knowledge from folks here. I opened this thread all giddy that I'd be able to help, because I took all this apart last year, but turns out it's all solved. Cool!
