York to Sanden A/C compressor upgrade for 114,115,108,123

If your York compressor is bad, the best replacement (if you don't care about originality) is a Sanden 7 cyl compressor. A York to Sanden adapter is available most anywhere (ebay, Amazon etc). The compressor I used for a 108 is #4272 with rear #8 & #10 ports. If rear space is limited, vertical ports are needed. I suggest using a parallel flow condenser if running R134a, but R12 works better. New custom hoses will need to be made, and in some cases adapters from flare to O ring if the correct fittings can't be sourced. Charge port fittings will need to be added corresponding to the refrigerant you are using. I use a dual relay to turn on the condenser fan whenever the compressor clutch is engaged......Rich

Just curious, why didn't you mount the drier in the original location instead of in front of the condensor? Using the original location allows to go to a larger, more efficient, after-market electrical fan. I use a 14" fan. They are readily available and draw less amperage than the original Mercedes fans.

I mounted it there because of the hose routing (shortest) and limited space elsewhere. Also, I have no idea where the stock drier was located. The car was brought to me with everything removed including the engine and trans. There is still plenty of room for a larger fan if the owner wants one. It is on my list of recommendations.

I had a suspicion the lack of the original mounting was the case. Here's a couple of pictures of the original mounting area. Not very good pictures because I was in the midst of installing Megasquirt and wiring is all jumbled but they give you the idea.

I did the same thing on my W123 some years back, although I had to rework the adapter plate a little. Even if Yorkie still works, going to Sanden 7 cylinder compressor is much more efficient, as Yorkie is a power hog.

Do you sell a complete kit for a W123? I have a right hand drive 300D with a busted Delco/ Harrison compressor and am keen to find a plug and play solution to this.

I do, look at the link in my signature. I am not sure how the hose routing is on a RHD, so you may have to have them done locally.
