Door Rubber W115

I am wanting to replace all the door rubber on my 1976 240 D and inspect and fix any rust I may find. Has anyone use a URO Door seal? The price difference $41 for a URO seal verses $256 for a genuine Mercedes seal is eye popping but I don't want to purchase a URO rubber seal if it is not going to fit properly. Thanks for the advise.

The general consensus is to avoid the URO brand of seals. The sponsors of this board seem to be making a genuine effort to improve the quality and satisfaction of their sales items.

Honestly, it is a 300D and not exactly a rare item. I'd be tempted to go with the URO door seals instead of shelling out the major monies for the OEM.

For an SL I was restoring then I'd go OEM.

Avoid the seals from Turkey at all costs.

That's a shame about the door seals from Turkey not being good. I had wondered about them, but it's not the first time I've heard they aren't very good. It seems one has to pay thousands for genuine Mercedes door seals if they want ones that are any good.

I got the OEM ones, $$$ but whatever. Love the way the doors clunk shut with them. My friend had a '77 with new URO seals. The doors felt too hard to shut, in a way that was unsatisfying. I think the UROs had too much rubber on them.

Why don't you buy a single URO driver's seal and put it in, then use it for 1 month, and see if you are happy enough. If not, you've only lost 50 bucks and a couple hours of your time.

Interesting. Do you have any experience with external trim (hard plastic) from Turkey? I see some on eBay that I'm thinking of getting, as they don't seem to carry the OEM ones anymore. Perhaps it's a different seller in Turkey though. I shouldn't assume they come from the same manufacturer.

The only experience I've had with parts from Turkey are the W110/W111 headliners. That was a big mess, and I ended up using genuine Mercedes.

It really depends on what you are trying to accomplish with your car and its use/condition.

Daily driver, garage queen, weekend cruiser, full-on Concourse, or what have you?

It is a nice daily driver. I am just making improvements as I go. I plan to keep the car for a very long time.

Our host offers those seals here:

Front Left: 115 720 0778 / 1157200778
Front Right: 115 720 0878 / 1157200878
Rear Left: 115 730 1378 / 1157301378
Rear Right: 115 730 1478 / 1157301478

Searching online, a few folks have mentioned that the rubber seemed more firm than OE. We'll have our engineers compare current stock to OEM and see if our durometer needs to be adjusted on the production line. No one has been returning these particular seals, but we've softened many of our seals over the last few years, and haven't re-evaluated these four yet.

We recently saw someone claim they bought a "URO Parts" W126 seal that was made in Turkey (and it fit poorly), but that's not possible. We don't make any seals in Turkey.

What do people use to adhere the seals to the doors properly?

I recently purchased 4 URO seals for Trunk, 2 doors and rear window W114. The rear window seal installed easy. I'll be installing the other seals soon. So far no problems.

I use Liquid Nails Fuze-It. Superior bonding IMO.

On a 115 the seal should clip in place and fit into the groove on the door. If glue is needed, 3M yellow weatherstrip adhesive.

I have uro seals on my 123 doors. They are OK but after 5 years are degrading more than the OEM seals did in 35 years of normal wear and tear.

For my 115 - when I had to replace the front and rear windshield seals I decided to go with OEM since they are much harder to change out.
