Is this really a '69 6.3?
Wife just saw this at Sea Island. Listed as 1969 6.3 at $40K.
My 1970 6.3 had round amber lights like this and I have always thought the 1969 had the cone amber lights. Am I wrong or is this really a 1970 and they do not know what they have. As I remember the 1970 was the last year without some kind of enviro additions that made it slower. |

Maybe a W108 w a motor swap? VIN would tell the tale.

1968 is the first year of production and they have the cone-shaped signal lights if they're a USA model. They also have the window motor switches on the driver's door panel and not on the center consoul.

But the question is whether the '69 had the round lights shown in the pic. Unless someone tells me different I think the one pictured is a 70 or maybe 71 and not a 1969.

I did answer your question. I said that only the 1968 model year had cone shaped signal lights on the 6.3 which means all others had the round ones you asked about.

Thanks for the clarification. I did not read that into your response.
That is very interesting. All these years I thought the '69 had the cone lights. Appreciate the info. |

Model years in the USA didn't make sense for MB in the late 60s and early 70s. If it arrived at the dealer in 1969 it could be sold as a 1969 or 1970 for example, depending on when it arrived, not when it was built. A "VIN" (chassis number) given to the classic center would tell you what model year MB considers it, and more importantly, when it was born and what colors and equipment it left Stuttgart with (ex: if the engine had high or low compression, etc.)

Changes were made from VIN and not always model year so it's possible that some 1969 cars could have cone signal lights but generally it's only for 1968.

Another reason that they may say it's a 69 is if they are reading the build date on the door. Anything after 7/69 is part of the 1970 model year. -CTH

interesting - what is your source for this? I have not heard this before. |

The date on the door is the manufacturing date. Build a car in September, it's not sold as that year's model, it's next year's. -CTH

Did the euro-spec W109's even come with turn signals mounted in that area? Could this be a euro-spec model with owner-added later lights?

Open the hood and look for the cubes by the brake booster.
