W114 moldings and roof rails
Finally got my '71 250C back from paint shop, starting to reattach trim etc. Q1: are trim moldings stainless, anodized aluminum, chrome plated, or other? I don't want to polish off plating. did that on '60 dodge hub caps. The roof rails appear stainless, not so sure about some other trim pieces. Q2: the roof rail rubber inserts have shrunk over the last 50 years. I'm trying to soak them in ATF then hang them up with weights attached to stretch them out. Does this work or something else better?

Mine shrank also but I never figured out a substitute. Fast forward almost 2 decades and it’s time to replace the inserts on the F250’s canopy. Turns out there’s a bunch of sizes and styles. Begin your search with RV insert or topper insert or canopy insert then refine based on your results. Maybe toss in boat insert. And maybe vinyl insert plus something other than insert which I’m clearly stuck on today 😏

All the trim is anodized aluminum. There are threads here with details on how to clean it up. And yes, you can kill it with kindness. -CTH
