Badge conundrum

My car is a 1970 W114 250C. However, my badge on my trunk states just “250”. It’s not a 250-been verified by MB dealership and by Independent MB shops. Not been wrecked there or anything. Long story short, why does it say “250” and not “250C”?

250 badges are easier to find?
Now, if you had a 250CE, that would be a rare badge indeed.

I’m just curious as to why it’s there. Would the factory do this?

There’s another oddity (possibly) as well, the gear shift knob is a white ball. And the shift panel (by the shift knob) is different. Were there different shift panels options? Could they have ran out on the normal ones and used a different model? My option sheet from MB does not list them.

I know the shift knob changed around the time my coupe was produced (12/1970) as it has the ergo knob and earlier ones have the round ball-black or white.

Not sure when mine was produced in ‘70 but I’m glad I got round shift knob. It would bother me to go to the ergo knob for completeness. Lol

the plate on the driver's door jam should tell you month/year of manufacture. -CTH

I'm going to the round ball when I get my 5spd conversion finished.
