Do I need a fan clutch tool
for my ‘70 W114 250C?

no, just a pair of 10mm, 6-point box end wrenches. One is a counter hold, the other loosens the bolt. Get all four loose and then remove.
Don't loose those little bolts, they are hard to find. -CTH |

Gotcha and thanks!
I’ve always wondered if I needed one for it. Some apparently do and was never clear if I did. |

I have also found that you usually have to get them all loose and move the fan forward a bit before you have the clearance to take them out. Once you get in there you will see what I mean. Not a tough job at all. It just takes a bit of precision and about ten minutes of time. |

Just an addendum to CTH's posting. Use a quality six point box end wrench. You might need to use a grinder to shave a bit off the wrench. Using an ill-fitting or twelve point box end will usually round the bolt heads.
To reinstall the clutch assembly insert one of the bolts a couple of threads deep. This will give you a pivot point to align the remaining bolts. Use anti-seize compound on re-assembly.

Thanks to both of you!
Doesn’t sound to hard to do. I saw one of the fan clutch tools on eBay for $10-20 and was going to buy one if it was required or made things easier. Once I get I get my gas tank squared away I’ve got replace my front crankshaft seal so know it’ll be coming out. |

oh you'll love removing that little u shaped pipe between the head and the water pump housing. Those hollow bolts are iron and the things they screw into are aluminum. Line up a set of replacements, don't reuse them unless they appear pristine on removal.
