Questions about options on my car
So I have the option 598 (heat insulated glass / heated rear pane) and was curious of what exactly it is.
Another one is option 515 Becker radio. When I look it up on an MBCA pdf of options it says MB Classic. What is the difference? Option 524 paint coat preservation. Is this clear coast? I got my build sheet options from MB. |

The heat absorbing glass is tinted not clear. It has a slight tint when compared to clear. Not sure what other differences are.

Option 524 paint coat preservation is just for shipping the car from the factory.

Sooo….the paint preservation is vinyl wrap or something like that? Interesting to know that they were throwing gimmicks at buyers even back then! Lol
Concerning the radio, Becker is not showing up in the dashboard. Maybe an aftermarket brand way ack when…? |

I’ll need to make sure they don’t crack the windshield then when I take it in for painting

No, think it was some sort of spray that they washed off, but honestly I dont know.
There are a few thoughts on it here: https://www.benzworld.org/threads/paint-code-524-paint-preservation-clearcoat.2923778/ Others mention cosmoline. Either way it was used just to ship cars across the ocean for protection. Someone cleaned it all up before the buyer received the car. |

It was greasy looking and waxy feeling. Yup, it was Cosmoline and it had to be washed off as a part of the make ready process. This was a common thing to protect against the sea voyage since the cars were just driven on to the ships then and not shipped in any type of container. |

Code 515 is for a Becker radio. It is a Europa MU-USA or what some folks call a two band. It has AM and FM and was made for the US market. This info comes from a MB published code book 03 of 94. I hope that helps.

Thanks bf109. I’m missing the faceplate saying it’s a Becker and I figured it was one. Another thing I gotta get for the restoration. I think you can actually buy them IIRC
