Interchange W114 differential gear ratio
 

I've got a 3.92 ratio on my '74 280C and want to change to a 3.07 . I've got many compatible models to choose from ,W123, W126 first gen. and have come across a 1987 300E W124 with a 3.07 (1.1 ltr box same as mine) will this work ?
Can I swap this '87 W124 differential from a 300E to replace my high geared W114 box ?

W126 GenI - 5 & 6 cyl., not V8
R/C 107 - 6 cyl.

The diffs in the W124 have a different case mounting; the internals could be used.

I think you want to make sure the axle lengths are going to be ok when switching from a small 6-cylinder diff to a big 8-cylinder (3.07) diff. I think that the 3.46 came in big and small, and might be the number you really want. With a 3.07, I doubt your car would get out of its own way.

Don’t forget to figure out what you are going to do with your Speedo too.

I have a W114, E230, 6 cylinders, 1972. I got it a few years back and I believe its original differential had been changed when I got it. I like to know about the ratio of its factory original diff and also which other differential with what ratio would most fit my car.

Look on the lower left corner face of the main case (not the cover) of the diff. The ratio is stamped into that face.

My friend, as I mentioned the original diff has been changed and that is why I like to learn about the ratio of the differential that the factory installed on the car.

Hi, Would someone be able to check the following part numbers (115 350 1220, 115 350 3320, and 123 350 6220 with its ratio as 1:4.08) which I have been told are for the right differential for my W114, e230, 6 cylinders, Twin carburetor, Manual transmission, 1972? As for the Manual transmission the following part number has been given to me: 115 260 4201.
