Excessive cranking to start
My '72 4.5 takes 3-4 full cranks to start when cold. It used to take 1. What gives?

Mine always fired on the first or second cylinder that got compression. I'm thinking fuel pressure. You turn the key to run, and the fuel pump buzzes briefly. Do that 4-5 times and then see if it fires up right away, if so you either have injectors leaking down or the check valve in the fuel pump may be bad.

In addition I would check Cold Start Injector for proper function and Temperature sensor ll for function ( coolant temp sensor)
