IDK, we should wait for the OP to let us know what the market is like in India (Where his/her IP is from).

I can't speak for everyone, but I've found that owning a classic Benz is really rewarding. Yes, they can be expensive to maintain, but if you do your research and are prepared for it, it's not as bad as you might think. For example, I know that replacement parts can be expensive, but you can usually find good deals if you shop. Also, regular maintenance is important, but it doesn't have to be expensive if you do it yourself or find a good mechanic. Overall, I think the experience of owning a classic Benz is worth the extra cost. Nowadays, I am thinking of moving on to JDM cars. I already found an r34 skyline for sale and thinking of buying it. Does anyone like JDM?

Owning a classic MB is a hobby and pastime not usually an economical a mode of transportation. Hobbys generally have some financial and time investment. If you own a classic and need to have it maintained and repaired I can see it being more of a "money pit".

Many insightful observations. Thank you.

In considering the "money pit" question, I think it's important to keep the alternatives in mind. Compared to a new car and the insurance, taxes and registration costs that go with it, a well-maintained W123 is probably not a money pit. Compared to any other similarly priced used car, my guess is that a well-maintained W123 is going to have similar bills, regardless of whether you do your own work or have a mechanic do it.

But because I'm returning to the classic MB world after a long absence (just bought a well-maintained '85 300D for $6500), I could be totally wrong. I'm very curious to know what the veterans here think.

Note to recent posters.
This is a spam post in the first place. The exact same wording has been posted on several sites for years and the OP never responds.

Despite your well meaning comments, Please Just leave it alone.

As for "veteran" comment : There is nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes.

Here is a great example of a cheap Mercedes that will cost someone dearly unless they buy it for parts: What's in your wallet? Not much if you take on this project.

There is another one in this section by Gray6 - also just one post and gone.

Same with one by maiYaa

And yet another by Papaku.

All quite recently. Seems something is going on.
The motive is elusive, spammers would have a link. Maybe it is competing forum owners trying to discredit PP. Circular posts don't benefit this forum. There are more than just those. One went on about vapor lock in a diesel. It was nonsensical. Diesel boils at like 500 degrees F. Air in the fuel line yes, vapor lock, no. Maybe air was what the guy was talking about.
It is possible to be just random, but doubtful. I think its been going on the whole time i've been a member. I think the first I noticed had the question, "Are Mercedes too troublesome?" Same thing, a line of responses, and the OP, long gone.

I will thank everybody for their input,
in the original Poster's name who made it here once and never again,
don't you all love that ?
I was almost banned on Benzworld for bringing up this very point.
"We need to coddle and baby any and all new people on the forum"

Well, how did that work out ?
Anyway, maybe he will see this in the next couple of years and chime in, or he won't, because he might have been run over by a bus (hopefully not a Mercedes Bus, I love those too).

Happy Holidays for everyone on here.

Hey,
The old Swiss/Swedish Hockey team bus reappears.

I knew about this bus, when it was originally offered by a Swiss Auction house and was sold for less than 30k US$.
Fast forward a year and the bus makes it to California.
It was now offered and sold for a staggering $ 110 000.
At Barrett Jackson or Gooding auction , Pebble Beach.

From thereon it kept popping up for years on ebay for a little more.
Until the sellers must have realize they couldn't really flip this sort of vehicle.

Thanks for the link.
It gave me a good chuckle.

...just because I have a bus similar to this one, except mine is longer, has Panorama windows front, back and sides of the roof.

That's amazing looking, inside and out! Only Mercedes could take a bus shape and make it elegant and sexy.
