First the basics...
I was reminded once again when the auxiliary fan on my 1972 300SEL wouldn't go on to START by checking every related electrical connection. I found a corroded connection at the firewall fuse holder and with the fuse itself plus corroded connectors to the fan itself which are located in front of the condenser and are constantly exposed to weather. Although Mercedes' electrical connections were better engineered than many back in the day, 50 years is a long time to resist contamination and weathering in a device that is subject to exposure on a regular basis.
At least, it USED to be...
