Motor swap SE 2.8 TO S 2.8 Motor

Can I use a 280 S Motor in a 280 SE ( Fuel Injected ) Car ?
does this require changes if so ?

Am thinking to use a good used 280 S motor in a 280 SE 2.8 Car

Car is a 1970 SE *** and the Motor is a 68 or 69 280 with dual Carbs
can just run a hot lead from a ballast resistor to the Distributor on the 280 Carb motor .

******

I am thinking to do this perhaps until I rebuild or find another 280 SE Motor
( the SE Motor needs a major Rebuild )

Thanks all

The feed pump in the SE chassis is more than enough; a pressure regulator may be in order.
Use the complete ignition system from the SE: distributor, coil, resistors, & switch gear (if equipped).

Thanks Frank :
I was thinking to by Pass the Low ( rear by tank ) Pressure Fuel Pump
but yes with a pressure regulator that should work .
Or I could by Pass that pump and just use the Manual Pump on the Motor .

The Distributor is different on the SE . Mounts different / Has a Gear Drive I think from the front of it to drive the injection pump i guess .

But I don't see why I can't just use the distributor on the 280 Motor

I think its a 68 or 69 Motor says 280 on the head big cast #'s
with no letters after that

The 1970 Fuel injection Motor says 280 SE on the Head ( Drivers side rear of head below spark plugs #'s same place both Motors )

Car was sitting in Fresno ca last 12 or 13 years has Zero Rust not far from your area .

The points in the distributor of the carburated engine will serve as the trigger, just as the points in the injected engine do. Retain all of the installed ignition system that is in the SE chassis.

So You Think I can use the " Carbureted Motor's Distributor Then but all the rest of the 1970 SE ( fuel injection ) original ignition Gear / ballast resistor
Coil / wiring Etc . Yes that should work fine i think

Thanks I was hoping this would work.

The Dual Carb Motor has been sitting but inside and it turns so I plan to add some ATF to the Cylinders and check the compression on Wednesday / Seller states the Motor runs good and I believe him . Car was backed up with DMV Fees so he parted it out .

However I think I well pull the Oil Pan and check the Lower ends before installing should only take an Hour or 2 and I can clean it out at the same time . Bearings > Rod & Main , Oil Pump Screen Bottom side Cylinder walls with Piston Up

Besides what has been covered, the SE likely has an oil cooler. The line to the oil cooler run from the oil filter housing. You can not use the oil cooler or use the lines from the SE.

All the swaps suggested so far should work fine.

You'll also discover the down-pipes on the exhausts are different. You are in a warm enough climate to keep the carb'd intake and discard the carb'd exhaust. That or get the 280S exhaust system.

I doubt the 280S and 280SE transmissions are interchangeable from the perspective of shift points and their reaction to the engine load. Somebody else would have to comment on that. I would stick with the 280S transmission if feasible rather than find out that they don't swap well. The 280S drive shaft and transmission are the "old style". If the 280SE is old enough, the tail of the transmission will look the same and the 280S transmission will go in nicely. If the 280SE is a later version, the transmission tail will look different and the drive shaft front piece is different. If the 280S driveshaft is available, just use that to make the swap. The other way to do it is find an M130V transmission from a 250/8 or 280/8.
