1972 W108 280SE 4.5 broken rear shock support

Today while driving, I heard a loud clunk.. I thought it was something on the trunk. I stoped and found that the rear left (driving side) support of the shock was broken.

It seems it was welded by the previous owner.

What do I do? Re-weld it again? It seems there’s something odd. Like it’s not the correct part.

Take a look at the other side. The piece is welded to the rear axle tube. But if it looks fishy, with a certain lack of polish, it may have been fixed by somebody.

And yes, welding in the replacement is all there is to it.
