Unhappy did I pay too much?

I just bought a 1976 240d, I paid 1300 for it,is that too much?
The reason I paid that much is beacause the seller showed to me the garage bill where in 1995 he spent over 4 grand in the total rebuilt of the engine even the head was replaced. He also put an original exhaust system the whole thing about 5 years ago, he replaced both windshield seals, replace the bushings and stabilizer bar in the front suspension,he also replaced the turn signal switch 2 years ago. But the car has some rust on both lower quarter panels the front fenders and some holes in the floor but no structural rust. AC not working he said he used it the last time in 1995 because there was a seeping noise when he turn it on.
Thanks for your advice

Sounds like a good deal to me also.... remember, the guys on this forum are cheap when it comes to putting out for an old MB Partly because they plan on bragging about how little they paid for a jewel....The only thing that really counts is whether you are pleased with the purchase....

I'm still crying after 2 decades.

Talking of candidate, if it's going to cost to much for my tranny trouble and possibly engin work; i'm puting a 3.8 or 4.2 JAG engin in this one!!

Would that be a first?
Can't wait to see the look on peoples faces when i'll open the hood!

When I read the subject line, my first thought was "of course you paid too much". After all, we always do. I just paid 310$ for a 1966 300sel that runs but has bad air suspension. A great price for a potentially nice car. The complete air suspension rebuild will be 1,500$ in parts alone (that's presuming I replace all the consumables and don't rebuild the valves !). Hopefully, I can get away with only spending a fraction of that.

Anyway, back to your car....

My rule of thumb is that any car that can be registered, insured, pass a safety inspection, and then driven 400$ without a repair, and does look ugly is worth 1,200US$ at a minimum.

So maybe you did just right.

No bargain, but if you can drive it for a while without problems, you'll be OK
