I just thought of something(s).
When you get everything back together, you may find that your valve clearance is seriously out. This is common after a valve job. This may require either thicker shims under the cam bearing towers, or a different thickness "thrust piece" on top of the valves. If you find that an adjuster turns easily, replace it, because it will quickly go out of adjustment.

I've got good news and then I've got bad news.
The bad news is that the head I took in to get machined is cracked in two places and is junk. Moral of the story is not to buy heads from complete idiots no matter how cheap it is. The must of used a sledge hammer to remove it or something else horrific. The good news is that they have a good head that has not been resurfaced before.. so.. most of my fears about valve clearance will most likely not be a problem and the engine will probably work alot better than if I had used the other head.. so it's a lose win win situation for me hopefully.

Of course, that depends on what they are charging you for the head.
I picked up a 220S ponton head on ebay for 15$ and it needs about 600$ worth of work to make it useful. I scrapped it. I have two M130E heads that each need 400$ worth of work to make whole. They will sit around until I have a use for them. -CTH |
