seatbelt installation help
I have a 'new' 1967 250se cabriolet with no seatbelts. We'd really like to install 3 point ones to feel more comfortable driving around the local crazies. I received a bulletin from MB classic center on the parts needed to retrofit them, but none of them are available. The only option I know of are Andover restraints retractable or non-retractable ones.
Does anyone know of any other supplier of seatbelts that aesthetically would look appropriate, and functionally are good. Any thoughts on Andover restraints products? Any ideas on retractable 3pt, which seem much more difficult to install to me, verse non-retractable 3pt ? Thanks, Mitchell mabel12@bellsouth.net |

Search under 111/112 shoulder belts. I had the same problem with my coupe.

I installed non-retracting, 3 point lap and shoulder belts in the front seats of my '60 220S Finnie. They're made by Beam Manufacturing and sold by J C Whitney for about $40 a set. They have the '60s style chrome buckles and are availible in several colors. J C Whitney also have retractable belts but those have '70s style plastic buckles. 3 point belts were a major project for my Finnie because there were originally no anchors built in for mounting the belts. The door pillars required my fabricating custom made anchors for the shoulder straps. Your '67 should have factory anchor threads built into the body, somewhere behind the front seats - on the sides of the tunnel, on inside rockers and near the top of the rear window sill, just behind the door. If you have the factory anchor threads, they should be a 7/16" fine thread to fit the bolts supplied with the new belts. If your coupe was originally sold in the US, it should have come with lap belts. If you can't find your anchor locations, and are reluctant to strip interior trim to hunt for them, try to find a '68 or later SE coupe (or good interior photos) to see where they're located.
Good luck. Happy Motoring, Mark

Did your bulletin from Mercedes Classic show belt anchor locations for your car? If you already have these anchor points, it should be relatively simple to install belts.
I have no experience with Andover belts. Happy Motoring, Mark

The '73 -> 114 coupes have three point belts with the lap part retracting. The shoulder anchor is just behind the door. I would think that these would work in your car, and there should not be a problem finding all the hardware, used.
Bob Neuberth at TMC is a starting point - 410 789 7896. There are also vendors in www.hemmings.com that sell them.

Keep in mind that, even if they aren't visibly damaged, the webbing on used belts weakens with age and UV exposure. I'd recommend getting new belts, If you can find a set that's acceptable to you.
