I saw it too... did you notice the part where they said they spent $200,000 on the restoration??? As good a car as it is, I can't imagine getting ANYWHERE close to that number upon the car's sale. Why on earth would someone spend more on a restoration than a car will ever be worth??

I don't know why, but I've done it before and will probably do it again.:p

Did I read that correctly ? That 29,000 of them were made ? That seems pretty high .... Did they mean 2,900 ?

According to Frank Barrets' recent Mercedes Benz Buyers Guide, 2677 Mercedes 600s were built from 1963 to 1981.
As soon as I get a garage like Jay Lenos', I'll have my own 600!

$200K is definitely high, but believe it or not, it's not too unrealistic when you're considering the car in question. 600s are INCREDIBLY expensive automobiles to maintain (I know from experience!). Think of this example: Everything in a 600 is controlled by hydraulics (seats, windows, etc..) There is a valve in each door which controls the window cylinder, door closing assist, seat operation and so forth...This valve, maybe 4X4" costs me $3,500 to buy, and I get jobber prices from MB and Bosch!! Now, someone on the list go and find a cutaway illustration of a 600's inner hydraulic workings and if it doesn't resemble a human nervous system to you, then you oughtta be a brain surgeon! Point being..These cars are easily the most labor-intensive models ever to roll out of Stuttgart and also remember that EVERYTHING on a 600 is made ONLY for a 600! Right down to the hood star.

It makes you wonder if MB ever made a profit on these cars.
