Once again, these repairs come with the territory.

Aaron thinks of it as being expensive because he knows how much he charges for the job! ''

The big problem with these cars is rust. Other than that, they are just old cars which are easy to work on.

Well I went to look at it today. The guy couldn't get it cranked over. He said the automatic choke was broken. (??) It had dual carbs so must have been the 280s. (There was no letters or Benz symbol on the back.) There was no rust that I could see under the car and the floorboards looked good too. The interior seats looked very nice. The dash was cracked, the windows were fine, tires and rims were new.

It almost cranked a couple of times, but it just wouldn't turn over. It had a block heater attached to it, but he hadn't used it. He was pouring gas into the carb before cranking it but to no avail.

It looked easy to work on, but the fact that it wouldn't crank up is one more thing (besides what I already know needs to be done) to deal/figure out. He said he would hook it up to the block heater and call me in a day or two.

I'm not sure if I'm still interested. The price is cheap-O though and I could put it on a flatbed and make it a spring/summer project.

On the way to see it I saw a 300d for sale on the side of the road. That was a halarious story in itself, but I don't know if this is the correct thread to tell that story though.

Anyway, thanks for your input/future intput on this.

Jason

If you can't drive it, then it becomes much more problematical. Trans, rear end, brakes, steering etc. can't be tested and fixing them doesn't add much value to the car. I personally have never bought a non-running car that did not have additional problems that surfaced once I got it going.

I'm not plannning on picking it up, unless I can drive it. And seeing how much trouble he was having getting it running I'm not too intereseted. I know zero, zilch, nada about carbs for starters. Your right too, who knows how many other issues there are once I got it home and got it running. I thought it was going to be a smokey running car (that's what he led me to believe -that I could still drive it home if I wanted) that needed a valve job. Oh well, no biggie, I'm always looking. As I'm sure so many here are too.

Here's one on E-Bay. It's a lot of money though...
but sure is a pretty car except for the interior...

I thought you were talking about this when I first saw the thread

Wow, that's nice alright. No bidders yet, but it's just listed. The interior of the one I looked at was cloth, in good shape.

HOLY COW man! You didn't tell us it was a CONVERTIBLE!
FOR $375????

This really IS a no brainer! Run for it dude! The wood in the interior is burl and worth a fortune to someone who is restoring these!

You can put sedan stuff in these cars (engines, etc.) to make them run and you could have a car worth some money.

Before you all get worked up into a feeding frenzy, check out the LINK Jason originally posted. If it WAS a convertible, I'd fly out there and buy it!

Happy Motoring, Mark

Haha, no sorry guys it's not a convertible. It did however have a clear sunroof. I'm assuming that it wasn't stock. The guy called me yesterday and said, "Hey I'm going to work on getting this thing going would you like to come over and pick it up once I get it running." I was on the phone long distance so I told him I'd call him back in a day or two. He implied that the only way he'd get her running is if I was for sure going to pick her up.

Either go get it... which is what I recommend at that price... or let us know how to contact this guy...don't let some non forum person accidentally see it listed and grab it out from under us..
Remember, I have a parts car for who ever gets it....

oops...

I couldn't see your link before... I assumed that it was the coupe/convertible.

Still.. I'd get it at that price! Especially if I had the place for another one!

Here's the contact info:

Fred 801-593-9722/801-230-9408

Sorry, but I can't remember which one was his cell. He's a real nice guy. He owns a 300e and just picked up a 1976 BMW to play with.

Cool

Oh no please call the guy if you'd like. I like it, and it's a great deal, I just didn't feel good about it for some reason. Probably just because he couldn't get it turned over/I dislike carb engines. I don't really have room for a non-running (or how long until I get it going) car right now anyway. He is going to donate it to the job corp if somebody doesn't snag it. I'm interested, but undecided. No hard feelings if somebody else got it. I'd rather somebody on the forum anyway.
