1970 280se firing order
This is my first mb purchase, I got it from a local police auction, the day before the auction the car ran great , the day of the auction it would'nt start at all. I took the dist cap off and noticed that some one had loosened the points up so they would'nt open.
and they prob messed with the wires as well. so I gonna need some help here. up until now I only owned and restored vintage mustang's , and for one reason or another , this just looked like it would be fun to do. is the number one cly at the front or the back of engine ? are the cly in order , 123456 or is it one of those 132546 sort of things ? and last but Im sure not least, from TDC what is the firing order ? as this is a project car for me I am quite sure I will be back picking your brains from time to time, and any input that you can give , is greatly appreciated. thx, mike |

Cylinders go 1 to 6 from front to rear. Firing order is 153624 - it's cast on the valve cover. There is a mark on the top of the distributor housing, at which the rotor should point when #1 is at TDC.

thank's alot chuck for your quick response.
with any luck and hoping the problem's it does have stay minor, I should have a really nice daily driver with in a week. I tend to forget that even though something is older does'nt mean that it will be easy to fix. The main thing that sparked my interest in the car , was that the interior and body looked as if it had never left the showroom floor. that and the fact that I have allways wanted a MB , but just never had the money. So for the 700 bucks I paid for it , I thought this was as good a place to start as any. tks agian, mike |

The Haynes manual for these engines is also good.

$700 and NO RUST? You got one hell of a deal there. Enjoy a looooong-living 108 beauty! Make sure to give it a car wash at least weekly, or you will have rust.
