Location of oil pan drain bolt?

So, I'm jumping in and starting what will hopefully become the beginning of my existence as a DIY'er.

As such, I'm going to change my oil tomorrow. Where is the drain pan bolt?

I know this is really easy, but bear with me! I had the filter changed a short while ago, so I'm really doing this as my first intro to fixing "Jutta" myself.

TIA,

Josh

On a 250, it's on the drivers side rear of the oil pan. It's probably an allen head drain bolt that requires a 14MM allen wrench.
Because of the limited space next to the crossmember, you may need a stubby allen wrench to get the drain loose. I got one from the Mercedes dealer years ago. It may still be availible there or here at PartsShop.

Happy Motoring, Mark

For saftey, set the parking brake, place the transmission into gear and place chocks under the rear tires. You will need an adequate jack to raise the car. Also, once raised use jackstands to support the vehicle.

Also, please be enviromentally friendly. Recycle your oil.

Replace the oil filter when changing your oil on principle.

Josh,

You can do this without jacking up the car. On mine I need I think a 14mm hex.. but instead of fitting that onto a socket wrench I slip it through a 14mm box wrench. The hex drivers are fairly long so this works very well. This allows me to get in between the pan and the cross member. You might need a few gentle taps with a hammer on the handle of the wrench to get it started. They sell a 3 piece hex kit at Auto Zone. So get that and a 14mm box wrench. I think it is either 17mm or 14mm.. but I'm not sure off the top of my head.

Have your oil catch handy, wear rubber gloves as this stuff is not good for you and loosen the drain nut until it is just starting to drip oil. Then push the catch almost all the way pass the oil pan as the oil will shoot out at an angle rather than straight down. You might also want to let the engine run for 10 minutes before draining so you get all the oil out. It's not terribly hot at this point and will flow easier.
